Chateau Blessey offers guests the opportunity to enjoy Southern hospitality with a French flair, gourmet breakfast featuring local produce, seafood, and evenings watching the beautiful sunsets from the porch over-looking the Gulf of Mexico. The in-house gallery features works by local artists from the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
After a holiday to France in 2006 the Blessey’s adopted the motto, “Fide, Fortitudine, Fidelitate which they had seen in a Chateau and decided to undertake the challenge of restoring and preserving their home into a Bed and Breakfast. The motto is proudly displayed with the words wrapped around their kitchen hood. The Blessey’s passion for cooking is known throughout the community and state. Walter redesigned the kitchen and added a wood burning hearth which provides a warm environment for visitors to observe the property and cooking as well as consumption of gourmet dishes. One of the most enjoyable aspects of their home is sharing it with others.
The original cottage that is currently the kitchen area of Chateau Blessey was built in the early 1900's on property that was formally owned by Captain Patrick Kennedy who was a pioneer in the seafood industry of Biloxi. The property was sold in the 1920's to Lawrence Fabacher of New Orleans who commissioned a local Architect Carl E. Matthes to design and construct a major addition to the cottage which is the current foot print of Chateau Blessey. The deed conveyed the property to the water's edge because no road existed in front of the house at that time.
The Blessey’s acquired the home in 1987 and spent the next fifteen years repairing and renovating every room in the home.
A tornado spawned by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 destroyed most of the front of the home and the rising waters compromised the home’s foundation. Hurricane Katrina destroyed the vast majority of the classic homes that existed on the beach front of the Mississippi Gulf Coast and less than a dozen survived in Biloxi. The only home that was salvageable from the Biloxi Light House east to the Ocean Springs Bridge is now known as Chateau Blessey, named for Walter and Katherine Blessey.
